(More customer reviews)With the two good reviews for this Deni model, and generally good reviews for their other products, I took a chance....and lost. Easy enough to set up and use, despite the horrible manual, this was not the sealer I was hoping for. First, it will evacuate most of the air in a bag, once the bag is constructed (more on that later). But it will not pull anything even close to a vacuum seal. It failed the empty soda can crush test by only putting a few dents in it. Trying to seal a cut of steak or meat left plenty of air pockets no matter how the bag was manipulated or how long the motor stayed on...no auto shut off. In fact, there is nothing automatic about this sealer. I knew that the $60 dollar price point was low, but I figured for the small amount of food I would be sealing it would be fine...WRONG! About the Deni bags...the bags supplied with the unit were fine. They were a good weight and sealed on two sides and were easy to use. Of the two choices for replacement bags I chose the Deni 1640's because I read a review saying the Deni 1761's were too thick. That was my my final mistake, because the 1640's are no more than very thin plastic sheets on a roll. You construct the bag by making two seals instead of one. I suspect the 1761 is the bag supplied with the sealer, but I won't be finding that out because I returned everything. In the end, I purchased a FoodSaver for around $100, and it was like night and day....easy operation and a great vacuum seal.
