Over the years, sealing food and meals in vacuum has been saving many people a lot of money. But, to be honest it has also crreated a fair amount of frustration for people that could never get "just the right touch" with their machine to make it work as advertised. This new engineering of a great idea (remove air, seal and freeze) is easier to use than before. However, having said that, it is still necessary to read the manual. The quick start guide is fine for those of us who have used one of these machines before, but for the "first time" user the manual is a necessity.
I bought this machine because it was attractive, priced fairly well, and because it had many more features than I have ever seen on one of these devices. (Truth time - I dropped our FoodSaver that we have had for many years and my wife had just bought a truckload of fresh peaches ...) The FoodSaver® V3840 Vacuum Sealer at my store came with several additional accessories that I would not normally buy but that I enjoyed trying out. For the "first time" users be aware that the bags CANNOT be boiled, only simmered. Also, the vaccuum seal is NOT a substitute for refrigeration or freezing - food that normally spoils at room temperature will also spoil in the bag at room temperature.
If the instructions are followed carefully, the new user will find that the learning curve is not steep nor difficult. The FoodSaver web site is very good and will probably answer most of the questions that may not be covered in the manual. ([...] ) Remember to stock up on rolls (cheaper than bags) but also buy some bags (more convenient than rolls) and have fun with the FoodSaver® Vacuum Sealer.
