(More customer reviews)When we bought a new (new to us) house in 2001, we bought a new vacuum as well. The house is approximately 3,000 square feet, and our old vacuum was running out of gas.
I thoroughly research any significant purchase - if I'm not happy with something it will usually end up being replaced, so it's cheaper buy right the first time.
When I was questioning the repair person in the rather large vacuum specialty store that fixed my old vacuum about what HE would buy for his family, he stated that he would buy a Lindhaus (I had never heard of them, and this store did not sell them). He gave a host of reasons including how well they worked, build quality, reliability, cost of ownership, etc. etc. Given that he spoke so highly of them, without even having the ability to sell me one, it seemed high praise indeed. I added them to my list to check out.
To cut to the chase: After much research and shopping amongst a number of brands, I bought a Lindhaus Healthcare Pro 14" vacuum, online. I also bought a number of accessories (extra long hoses to vacuum ceiling light fixtures etc.)
I am most satisfied with my purchase.
It is quite powerful, relatively quiet, easy to handle and cleans extremely well. It has never needed any repair of any kind to date - no belts or brushes, no problem whatsoever. The bags are not messy, hold a great deal, and are easy to change and deal with . You can use Hepa or standard filters, and it also has an additional filter that comes with the bags. It does not "smell" or put dust in the air. It was very well thought out and designed - down to the very long and well made power cord. It still looks like the day we bought it.
Lindhaus vacuums are often used by hospitals and other institutions, and are well regared on the allergy boards.
I recommended Lindhaus to my sister, who was not happy with her Oreck. She is much happier with the Lindhaus, notes that it "just cleans better", and has not had to do any work on hers either (she had to replace the belts on her Oreck regularly). The Lindhaus weighs about 5lbs more than her Oreck, the only disadvantage.
These vacuums cost more than the average vacuum, but less than the high-end types. It was more than I had originally imagined I would spend on a vacuum (x2), but I am happy I took the plunge. It is now 9 years old and I see no reason that it will not last for 20 years, and give excellent service for all of them.
Highly recommended.
