(More customer reviews)I bought a Smartpool Nitro Wall Scrubber to replace a broken Dolphin unit. It is a great little robot with some nice features and only a few minor issues. Note that there are 3 products in the Nitro line: the Cleaner, the Wall Climber, and the Wall Scrubber. The Wall Scrubber (this product) appears to be the latest addition to their product family, with the most features.
First, the good:
1. Price - much less than the similarly-functioned robots I've seen elsewhere.
2. Thoroughness - It does a fantastic job of cleaning the entire pool, stairs and water-line included. The dolphin did a good job on the pool floor and the water-line, but it never got up on the stairs, and I was pleasantly surprised to see the Wall Scrubber up there. It didn't get the top step, mind you, but the bottom 2 steps were vacuumed.
3. Speed - it's much faster than I remember the Dolphin being, and normally gets the job done in about an hour for our 20'x30' pool. I think this is due to the way the Wall Scrubber's tracks work - in addition to movement, the tracks kick debris directly into the front- and back-filter intakes, so one pass is usually all that's needed for a complete clean.
4. Convenience - removing the filter in the Wall Scrubber is a cinch! There are two little latches that are quite easy to depress, and the filter unit lifts out of the body. Again, comparing this to the Dolphin, I MUCH prefer the Wall Scrubber. The Dolphin's latches were klunky and became stuck regularly, and the filter bag needed to be held in place with some little brackets.
5. Weight - nothing much to say here except that the unit is pretty light.
6. DIY repair. I haven't yet had to take advantage of this (I've only had the Wall Scrubber for 2 months), but if the robot does break down, it's good to know that all the parts that I might need are available from Smartpool. When my Dolphin broke down, I made the decision to junk the unit instead of sending it off for an expensive repair.
Now for some minor issues:
1. It seems to have some trouble with smaller rocks. Leaves, twigs, dirt and debris are all sucked up with no issues, but I do occasionally find some pebbles that the unit didn't get.
2. Leakage on removal - one of the features I was REALLY looking forward to was the forward drainage port. While the port works well, the filter's intake doors (front- and rear-) invariably get blocked open by a twig or something, and smaller debris always escapes when I remove the unit from the pool. I wish the springs holding the doors closed were a bit stronger.
3. No power-line swivel - the robot works well, as detailed above, but coiling the cable is tricky because it gets twisted during use, and must be unwound. The power-line IS kink-resistant, true - but it still gets pretty twisted.
4. NO CADDY. This was a little bit of a surprise for me, because their other Nitro's come with a "free" Caddy. Not so with the Wall Scrubber. I assume this is a cost-savings measure, but it's still a chore to have to carry the robot, with its cord and the power unit, back and forth from my storage area.
So, overall, I'm happy with the Wall Scrubber, and am glad we bought it. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good, user-maintainable, robot without 2G's to burn on a remote control system.

Hayward Phantom Robotic Pool Cleaner w/o booster pump Review

We just had ours replaced after basically every part of it (hose, housing, wheels, jets) had broken - our pool expert (NOT a Leslie's employee pushing the Phantom) confirmed that the issues we had occur widely among his other customers and shared some other horror stories.
We also had similar problems to Franklin (see other Phantom review), where the Phantom would get twisted up and generally stuck in anything even closely resembling a corner...
We ended up switching to the Polaris 380 instead. We had a Polaris model at our last house and were really happy with it, based on initial results I'm very happy with our decision.

I rarely brush out or have any debris in the pool. We have found that the cleaner tends to break down after 1-2 years but the Amazon purchase price with rebate made this a good value. The one negative is that the unit often spits water out of the tail onto my windows.

Semi-Round Step Trash Can with Plastic Lid Size: 10.5 Gallons/ 40 Liter Review

(More customer reviews)I needed to purchase two new cans for my kitchen, for regular and recycled trash. My previous 2 stainless cans (unknown brand) had issues with the foot pedal not working properly after a few years and the "stainless" or brushed chrome sides wouldn't clean up right anymore. So, after quite a bit of on-line and in-store research, I went with new simplehuman brand cans. I liked two different styles but wanted two matching ones, but couldn't decide. So, I bought one of each and brought them home to compare. I figured I'd exchange the one I didn't like with another of the one I did. I brought home a Semi-round 40L size, and a second 35L slim size, both with the black plastic lids and step mechanism from a Great Indoors store. When I got them home, everyone agreed we should keep them both, and although different, they were compatible and seemed to fit the area and trash needs.
I seriously considered buying the hands-free motion sensor cans instead of the step cans, but realized that these are hands free, too, as long as I have a foot! So, I decided that the worry of motor, speed, or battery issues would never occur if I just went with the step can, so I did.

They come with a 10-year warranty, so I made sure to keep the receipt. Before using for the first time, I used lemon oil over the exterior stainless and black plastic lids to seal them, and polished with a soft cloth. When I need to reclean, I use a little Windex or 409, then more lemon oil or furniture spray polish. They clean up beautifully and look like new. The Costco brand kitchen bags (13 gal) fit easily, and the ability to tuck in the bag so it is not visible when closed makes for a much nicer look. They fit solidly on the floor and look great with our stainless appliances. So far, I'm very pleased. (Purchased 11/07/10)

(More customer reviews)I bought this originally from Costco...and after four shampoos, it stopped sucking up water. It did clean, but not perfect. Many of the stains that I tried to work on were still there after repeated cleaning and prepping beforehand. The attachments for sofa and carpeted stairs were a complete joke. They just left stains on my sofa, and didn't have enough suction power to clean anything on the stains. I found a good spray of Oxyclean and rags pulled up more dirt that this machine. Renting a rug doctor carpet cleaner still seams like a better way to go...bigger water tank and more powerful suction. I paid $200.00 plus tax and got four uses out of it. If the machine broke after let's say 24 uses, then maybe I wouldn't feel so ripped off. I know these machines aren't great to begin with, and not made to last (all parts are plastic), but throwing this into the landfills after barely any use is pretty terrible. Rug Doctor here I come!

Hayward Large Capacity Leaf Canister for Pool Cleaners Review

(More customer reviews)After reading multiple reviews regarding different canisters and inline catching devices, this one caught my eye. I really liked the fact that it was an in-line, had a bag net and was easily cleanable.
Every spring I have to contend with my Pool startup routine. This typically includes cleaning my DE filter twice.
First is prior to starting the vacuuming process to gain maximum suction from my filter system. Second is after the pool cleanup is complete due to all the silt and particles getting past my pool pump and into my DE Filter.
This canister did a wonderful job. It caught 95%the sediment, leaf remnants and mini rocks that had flaked off my pool deck during my winter freeze and ended up on the bottom of the pool.
The canister was easy to clean out and store. I highly recommend using a bit of seal grease on the rubber o-ring to prevent leaking and help with long term storage between seasons.
Great job Hayward, this product was well worth the money.

(More customer reviews)I bought one of these as a present for my husband. It vacuums fine. However, it has a good sized dent in the lower back, where the I.D. plate is, though it was well packed. That means it was already dented when they put it in the box. The dent prevents the cord from being retracted, so it dangles helplessly out the back. I specifically chose this model so I could leave in on the fireplace hearth since it is better looking that all the rest I saw. I emailed the seller weeks ago and I have not heard one word from them-not even that they acknowledged receiving my email. I am still waiting for some kind of answer as to options for fixing it.

How I wish I had had the sense to do it years ago. Its only flaw is that every so often a large leaf from a nearby magnolia tree gets caught between one of the drive wheels and the body and stops it from moving. But it otherwise is far superior to the Polaris, and its twist-off bag is much easier to use than the Polaris bags.

(More customer reviews)I bought this blower because I wanted to clean off my driveway without the hassle of plugging in my larger electric blower. I've owned it for about a year now.
The first thing that you notice about this blower is that it's much smaller than it looks in the photos. It's closer in size to your hand saw than it is to a standard leaf blower.
This has it's advantages and disadvantages. It's easy to set up, just twist the nozzle onto the front and plug the battery in the handle and you're ready to go. If you have a small outdoor job like blowing leaves or twigs off your front porch it works great. But being physically smaller in size than other blowers you don't move nearly the volume of air as a full size blower and sometimes you need to bend over and "push" the debris around with the air stream. The trigger style variable speed switch is great in that it allows you to dust off items that wouldn't survive a more powerful blast. It would be great for jobs like blowing sawdust out of your shop area as you could lightly dust the shelves and then sweep the floors full blast.
Even with an 18 volt battery the Makita doesn't have enough power to do the big jobs or work well on grassy surfaces. Even a large driveway would be a strain as it would require too much bending over and you would probably run out of power before you were done.
This blower is for hard surfaces and small jobs. In this role it is a mini powerhouse. It's build quality is high and it is light weight. It's designed for those "in between" size jobs.
It might even make a good blow dryer for a wet dog.
In summary, do NOT purchase this blower for regular yard work. Buy a full size.
DO purchase this blower for jobs of convenience and you will enjoy it. It is well built and nice to have when you're willing to start a five minute job but not a 20 minute one. :^)
Update: Dec 5, 2002 This morning I used the blower to blow off the powder snow that fell on my vehicle overnight. It took less than a minute and I didn't get my hands snowy just before I had to leave for work. Because you can whip this blower out quickly, there are a lot of different things that you can use it for that you might not think of otherwise.

After researching sewing machine trolleys this one was the only one that looked sturdy. (hard sides). I had talked with other women with the other type and none of them seemed happy. After seeing mine they all stated Omni Glide would be their next. It is so easy to push/pull. Wheels and handle are very sturdy. I have my fabric etc. in a cloth carryon which I hang on the handle so all I have to do is navigate the Omni Glide. Blue Diamond Robotic Pool Cleaner with Remote Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this pool cleaner to replace a Polaris that worked (poorly at best) off the suction line of my pump. This unit works off of an electric transformer that steps the voltage down from 110 to 12 volts. It's pricey but thoroughly cleans my pool in 1 hour. It takes the load off the pump by working off an electric line and capturing even fine particles in a fine mesh, cloth bag. The bag is cleaned after each use - takes about 5 minutes. I did have some problems wuth the first unit I purchased; but the customer support was excellent. After the first repair failed to solve my problem; the manufacturer replaced the unit. The 5-year warranty also eases any worries regarding future problems. All in all, it's the best pool cleaner I have ever used.

(More customer reviews)This chipper is a great tool for yard clean up. It starts reliably and easily every time. I have had this machine for 4 years and it is great. You do have to be prepare limbs and branches for shredding, cutting down pieces that have major curves into shorter lengths
If you think you can use it like the professionals use their $12,000 machines that are towed behind a truck you will be disappointed.
One other tip, make sure everything in the chute is ground thru before turning off the machine. Otherwise, a hunk of wood will wedge into the cutting knives and prevent the engine from turning over when you pull the starter rope.

PROS:
* It works-- it does what it is supposed to do.
* It has a storage area for rolls, enabling you to feed a roll directly out of the sealer.
* Built-in cutter makes it easy to cut bags.
* Three sealing settings, for precise control.
CONS:
* It takes up a lot of room on the counter or work surface.
* It is not a heavy-duty item by any stretch of the imagination.

When you are using the highest setting ("3") which I almost always do, after 10-15 bags are sealed it starts to over-heat. You'll know this is happening when it slows down and takes longer and longer to seal each bag. When this first happened, I called customer service but was told that this was normal, and I needed only to wait a few minutes for it to cool down, and then I could resume using it. This was true, and with experience I learned to break up large jobs into discrete operations. So instead of trying to seal 30-40 bags at once (as with butchering a deer), I'll do 10-12 at a time, do something else for a while, and then do 10-12 more. I can live with this, but it is an inconvenience nonetheless. This year it seemed to be dying, so I bought another one at BJ's, as a spare in case it died. Since it didn't die, I took the unopened one back for a refund. Next year, I will either do the same thing or just break down and buy another one. In most things, you get what you pay for, and I'm thinking that maybe I should spring for a more expensive one that is closer to being commercial-grade.
On balance, this is pretty good value for the money, but for large jobs, expect occasional delays as described above.
Word of advice: as a general rule, buy bags, not rolls. The only advantage of a roll is you can make the bag as long as you need to. But I've found that due to my imprecise measuring, I waste a lot of material, as the natural tendancy is to make the bag a little too long, "just in case." So, I end up with almost every bag being about 1-2 inches too long. Also, with bags, the sealer does twice as much work, as it has to seal both ends of the bag. Finally, with bags, every now and then you are going to lose concentration and select "seal only" which will result in the bag being sealed but the air not sucked out... then you have to replace that bag and use another one, thus resulting in even more wastage. Keep a roll or two on hand, for the odd cut of meat that won't fit into a bag, but bags otherwise.
