It's great for separating bargain-sized purchases of meat (e.g., chops) into single or double servings. Also good for sealing fresh catches to freeze (and, because bags are clear, one can still tell what type of fish is packaged). Fantastic for sealing snacks (e.g., celery) and meals (e.g., steaks, crabcakes) for the cooler when camping or boating. We even use to seal bait (e.g., herring) into smaller portions for fishing (although it's good to place a folded paper towel toward the top of the bag so your foodsaver doesn't suck down the stink juice). Even for products that cannot be vacuum sealed due to crushing (e.g., bagels, hard boiled eggs), one can use the sealer without using the vacuum function to make an airtight/waterproof bag.
