(More customer reviews)I have a Miele Dishwasher that needs this salt. I ran it for some time with the "salt" light on, and got some problems (Drain/Intake light) and the cycle would stop mid cycle, and had to be restarted.
Since adding the salt, Dishwasher has worked fine. The salt is required for the built in water softener. I can't get it locally, and this was the best deal I could find.

Somat Salt is used to soften water in dishwashers. Water from the tap often contains lime. In order to reduce the lime deposited on dishes in the dishwasher, some dishwashers have a water softening unit which withdraws the harmful lime from the water. Table salt is not suitable for water softening in dishwashers because it usually contains insoluble components which can affect the efficiency of the water softening unit. All Miele dishwashers have a built-in water softener to optimize cleaning results. To function perfectly, this softening unit requires special salt. Miele recommends using Somat Salt. Somat is made in Germany by Henkel and imported into the US by Miele.
